The Chevron World Challenge is an off season golf tournament hosted by Tiger Woods, though this year there was some confusion about his participation due to his recent low ranking. He is four time Champion of this tournament.Woods expressed gratitude to the tournament committee Tuesday after squeaking into the event he hosts. His Official World Golf Ranking barely stayed in the top 50 last month, just high enough to qualify for an exemption. The Tiger Woods Foundation is the primary charitable recipient of this exclusive year end event founded by Tiger. It takes place each December at Sherwood Country Club,in Thousand Oaks, California.
The annual format is that 18 of the world's best golfers compete in a 72 hole stroke play event. The field is comprised of the top eleven players from the World Golf Ranking as of September 30, 2011 including the current four major winners, the Defending Champion, and two special exemption players selected by the Tiger Woods Foundation.
Tiger Woods appears eager to continue his climb back from his latest low. "I had (rankings) points rolling off from '09, I had a very good year that year. I won, what, seven times around the world, so all those points are coming off. Unfortunately, I fell quite a bit, and I fell fast. Good news is, by playing next year, I have no points coming off, so I can start rebuilding." -  Wood said at a news conference in Hollywood.
